FEATURE STORY: Top 10 Free Things to Do in Las Vegas

1. Viva Las Vegas Show at the Stratosphere

Visit the Stratosphere Tower. Shows start at 2pm and 4pm daily. 1 hour duration. An all American Las Vegas Show with comedy, dancing, singing and mini revues. A great FUN show. Check the what’s On magazine when you get into Vegas and you’ll find free admission for 2 coupons. The only catch is that you must buy a drink each for $4 to $5 . But, we think it’s worth it. Why is it FREE? Naturally the hotel wants you to be there and as you walk through to the show, hopefully you’ll drop a few quarters in their slot machines.

2. Free Chocolate Munching at Ethel M’s Chocolate Factory

Yes! Free chocolate samples for everybody. No need for reservations. Ethel M’s is a delicious place for delicious chocolate. You can visit the factory and see what really goes into chocolate production. They have an interesting cactus garden too. It’s about 20 minutes drive out of Vegas on the way to the Hoover Dam. If you don’t have car while in Vegas , don’t worry we’ll be stopping here on our Hoover Dam Deluxe Tour.

3. World of Coca Cola Drink Tasting & Tour

Well it’s not quite free, but at $2 for the tour and unlimited soda refills of over 30 different soft drinks from around the world we think it passes the Top 10 test. We tried honey and lemon, lychee, watermelon as well as the Classic Coke. Everybody turned up their nose up at the Beverley drink sold in Italy. A bitter aperitif that just about makes your lounge curl up. As you would imagine, they have everything Coca Cola. Souvenirs, gifts and an excellent history of Coke tour. Definitely worth a visit when you need a refreshment. Located next door to M 7 M’s Chocolate World right next door to the MGM Grand Hotel. Open 7 days a week.

4. Volcano Eruption Show at the Mirage Hotel

Can you believe it a man made volcano erupting right on the Las Vegas strip? It manages to stop the traffic nightly and is an awesome sight on your first trip to Las Vegas. Starting at 6pm outside the Mirage Hotel and every 15 minutes there after until 11:30pm It lasts approx. 8 minutes and operates 7 days a week (weather permitting). Check with your hotel to confirm timings are current. – A Las Vegas MUST SEE.

5. Fremont Street Experience – Downtown

A mega million dollar canopy and light show shrouds the original Downtown Las Vegas Fremont Street and the FREE Show is really a sight to behold. It presently starts at 8pm with shows every hour on the hour finishing at midnight. The show is approx. 12 minutes long. A particularly good show overhead during the Christmas Holiday period. The #301 CAT bus goes from the Las Vegas Strip to Downtown Fremont Street every 10 minutes, 24 hours a day. Check with your hotel to confirm timings are current.

6. Treasure Island Battleship Show

We thought we’d seen it all and then we got to the Treasure Island Hotel & Casino. What will they think of next. 2 huge 50 foot high battleships with oodles of pirates put on a spectacular reenactment of activities we’d expect at a Boston Tea Party. Plenty of lights, explosions & FREE entertainment. Starts at 4pm daily with a show every 90 minutes. Last show at 11:30 PM. Show lasts approx. 14 minutes. ( please check with your hotel to ensure timings are most current.

7. Bellagio Light and Water Fountain Show

Sitting out on the patio of some of Las Vegas’s finest restaurants you would be mistaken to think you were in the heart of Lake Como in Italy. A manmade lake sitting on the strip hosts a not too subtle reminder that you are in fact still in Las Vegas. A fanfare of lights, powerful sound and gushing jets of water fly up into the sky casting a spray of excitement in the air. I’ve not been able to ascertain the timings of the show, but it certainly is frequent enough to catch your eye most any time in the evening. Best viewing from the Paris hotel or Circo restaurant at the Bellagio. (weather permitting).

8. Largest Golden Nugget in the World

At the Golden Nugget Downtown you’ll find a secured display in the casino of the Largest Golden Nugget ever found. Another photo opportunity we thought you’d appreciate knowing about. Open 24 hours a day.

9. MGM Grand Adventures Theme Park

A way Cool place! General admission is FREE. It’s about $12 for ride pass. We found a way of spending very little money. Sit and enjoy the FREE street shows & entertainment.

10. Ocean Spray Cranberry World

Everything you wanted to know about cranberries and more. A factory store with FREE Samples. Bakers treats in the demonstration kitchen. It’s about 30 minutes out of Vegas along Boulder Highway.

We understand that the above was NOT one of the companies that advertises with us. Anyone else with good or bad experiences on Grand Canyon or other tours out of Las Vegas? allvegastv@aol.com

We understand that company is having problems with their fare-search software and we pulled the link off the top of this newsletter until they get the problem corrected.

With all due respect, we have never hidden the fact that we publish this free newsletter filled with the best unbiased information we can offer in hopes that our readers will book their hotel, car, shows, and tours through us or the sponsors. In fact, the paragraph after the free contest section notes that each and every week.

However, we do go out of our way to make sure that we offer good, solid deals and discounts in all departments and are very responsive when we hear of a problem with a sponsor. We dropped Prodigy Internet a few months ago as a sponsor because they didn’t get the free discs to people that requested them.
