Hello from Las Vegas! Highs this next week will be in the 60’s (F) and the cold and snow in much of the US doesn’t look like it is letting up soon. Can’t say I’d trade places with those of you snow and icebound, but this is a great time to get away to Las Vegas and warm up.

Our pick for the best Super Bowl party this Sunday? Aladdin’s Big Game Party features gorgeous Hawaiian Tropic models, a chance to win $100,000, giveaways … oh, the game on huge screens.

Valentine’s Day - is right around the corner. Easy for us guys to forget (hey, Super Bowl is on tap, NASCAR is starting … ) and if you didn’t measure up last year, take her to Vegas this year and all will be forgiven. Plus, it falls on a Saturday so the odds are you have the day off.

Rooms aren’t going to be cheap on short notice, so use our expert advice that we give for New Year’s Eve bookings to nail that Valentines room in Vegas. She’ll be the envy of her friends (and you get to go to Vegas)!

Best Kept Secret - Flamingo Wildlife Habitat is among the best kept secrets in Las Vegas … and it is free! Home to a flock of live Chilean Flamingos, African penguins, swans, ducks, Koi, and turtles populating the grounds, this is a favorite of ours to unwind or take someone for a romantic walk. The carefully tended gardens, tropical plants, and waterfalls are amazing.

Roy Horn Update - Roy (Siegfried and Roy) Horn is progressing very well, according to Las Vegas gossip columnist Norm. Click to read the details

Speaking of … word is that Siegfried and Roy will be replaced with a Cirque Du Soleil show. That combined with the Cirque style show Celine Dion - A New Day and a Cirque style show scheduled for Wynn Las Vegas, and the one soon to come online at the MGM Grand will bring this unique show style to seven different venues.

Will supply outstrip demand? Probably not as these unique, high-end productions are sensory delights that make a lifetime impression. If you get a chance to see Cirque du Soleil shows O, Mystere, or Zumanity, grab it. Tickets are constantly in high demand.

Lawry’s The Prime Rib is at first glance an elegant, simple and well known eating establishment. Located on Las Vegas’ famed “restaurant row” just a mile from The Strip, Lawry’s dramatic Art Deco design, rich woods and vibrant colors welcome you into a setting that has an extraordinary feeling of warmth and elegance.

The décor is tasteful but doesn’t scream snobbery. The staff is very well trained and many have been with the company for decades. Their helpful nature and hospitable attitude defines the culture that is Lawry’s.

Let’s talk about the food. Wow! Bring your appetite. Good size proportions, and the entire menu from salads to entrees, and (of course) deserts are excellent.

Hello from Las Vegas! Our winter hiatus is over, our hangover from New Year’s eve has subsided, everyone was safe and sound and Las Vegas enjoyed the biggest New Year’s ever!

Co’mon … did anybody think terrorist would be dumb enough to do something at midnight Pacific time when everyone in the known “centers of the universe” (New York, Washington DC, London, Atlanta … take your pick) were asleep? That wouldn’t have been getting much bang for the buck.

Binion’s Closed, Sold, Set To Open - Binon’s was closed this past weekend due to numerous outstanding debts owed to everyone from the IRS to the union pension and welfare funds. Harrah’s has been interested in the property for quite some time and bought it almost immediately. The lights are back on and word is that the casino will open again as quickly as regulators and other legalities are taken care of.

A union strike of downtown hotels was averted in 2002 but many questioned whether the struggling Binion’s property could meet the new wage and benefit demands. Ultimately it appears they couldn’t.

To the uninitiated, it would seem that operating a casino is a no-brainer but with the growth of Indian Gaming and the Las Vegas Strip really becoming the focal point for those choosing a Las Vegas vacation, downtown casinos have been suffering for years.
