Newkirk's Notes - comments on Las Vegas from AccessVegas.Com publisher Ted Newkirk:
After a fierce bidding war, The Tropicana has finally been sold. Just as I have predicted repeatedly in our free streaming broadcast/podcast (click to listen to all archives), the Trop is going to be around for a while. New owners Columbia Sussex Corp. hint at quite a bit of construction and upgrading, but no plans to implode and start over. This is great news for budget travelers who have enjoyed the hotel's great location and lower priced rooms. For those of you that prefer more upscale accommodations, don't worry: Las Vegas has about 40,000 hot, new high-end rooms coming online in the next 4-5 years. Current Giveaways! Pass This One Around - The Las Vegas Hilton SuperBook recently posted their ever popular NFL games of the year. This includes all the Sunday night, Monday night, and other marquee match-ups throughout the entire season. The SuperBook also posted the entire first week's schedule just a month ago. More than 95 games were posted early. "This gives our guests the opportunity to wager on a particular game even though they might not be in Las Vegas on game day," says Jay Kornegay, executive director of the Superbook. These lines will remain open for wagering throughout the entire season with the SuperBook staff updating them every Sunday once the season starts. In this case, maybe the early bird does get the worm.
