Desert Inn Implosion - The time and date are now set: This Tuesday Nov. 16'th, 2004 at 2:30 AM (that is Monday late night) the remaining two towers of the Desert Inn will come down. This is a date change from an earlier report.

Manhattanization Of Las Vegas - The 90's brought the era of the megaresort to Las Vegas. This decade brings the high rise boom. Upwards of 30 condo projects are on the drawing boards, and MGM Mirage just announced an urban metropolis on the 66 acres between Bellagio and Monte Carlo.

Frankly, the term Manhattanization is a little off-target. This boom more reflects the development happening in coastal areas where high-rise condos are built with ocean or gulf views around upscale shopping and dining areas to attract well-to-do baby boomers and young professionals. We don't have an ocean. Instead the Vegas Strip view is our focal point.
